Psychological Evaluation Services for Veterans
Professional Psychological Evaluations. Thoughtful, Individualized Care.
Military service can involve experiences that continue to affect emotional well-being, relationships, and daily functioning long after service has ended.
At Coast & Canyon Psychological Services, we provide independent psychological evaluation services for Veterans, with an understanding of the unique experiences and challenges associated with military service.
Our approach emphasizes comprehensive clinical assessment, careful consideration of relevant history, and objective documentation of psychological functioning.
Veteran Psychological Evaluation Services
Evaluations may address concerns involving:
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Depression and other mood disorders.
Anxiety-related conditions.
Adjustment difficulties.
Psychological effects of military-related experiences.
Interactions between chronic pain, physical health, and psychological functioning.
Independent Psychological Evaluations
A psychological evaluation may be helpful when additional clinical information is needed to understand current symptoms, functional difficulties, or the relationship between psychological concerns and relevant life experiences.
Depending on the referral question, evaluations may include:
Review of relevant military, medical, and mental health records.
Comprehensive clinical interview.
Assessment of current psychological symptoms.
Standardized psychological measures when appropriate.
Clinical interpretation and diagnostic impressions.
Written evaluation and professional opinions within the scope of the referral.
What Is the Difference Between a DBQ and an Independent Medical Opinion?
A Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) is a standardized form used to document findings relevant to a particular VA disability claim.
An independent medical opinion may address specific clinical or medical questions, such as whether a condition is related to military service, when sufficient evidence and an appropriate referral question are available.
The appropriate evaluation depends on the Veteran's circumstances and the purpose of the referral.
A Clinically Grounded Approach
Our role is to provide an independent, clinically informed assessment based on the available evidence and professional judgment. Evaluations are conducted with attention to diagnostic accuracy, relevant history, and functional impact.
We do not guarantee particular VA disability ratings or claim outcomes, and independent evaluations should not be interpreted as VA affiliation or endorsement.
Psychological Therapy for Veterans
In addition to evaluation services, we offer evidence-based psychotherapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, and adjustment difficulties.
Treatment is individualized and may incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based approaches.
